When, as a last resort, a severely obese person wants to loose weight, the doctor can operate on them and reduce the size of their stomach.  Which reduces intake and therefore should result in weight loss.  Here is a link to webmd that explains it.

      $39,999.00 home grant IT"S REAL!!

Posted in ChasERyr on Feb 24, 2010

Well, I finally found out about the grant. I is for purchasing a foreclosed home only. And they have to be in a specific area. Here are the catches. You have to qualify for a loan, then select the home, then qualify for the grant. Once qualified you will get $15,000. Then based on your credit score, with better scores getting more and lower scores getting less, you get an additional funding grant. All of it has to go to closing costs or downpayment, and it and anyother help you get cannot pay for the home completely. The main thing is this is not an outright grant. You have to live in the home for 5 years to get the first grant for free and an additional 5 to get the second. You must live in the house yourself, you cannot rent, loan or sublet the home. In addition, if you do not stay in the home you will have to payback the grant, interest free based on the amounts you got divided by 60 months on the first grant and multiplied by the number of months left in the 5 years. Then the second grant time starts counting. If you leave during this time, you have to take off the time between the end of the first grant and when you leave and pay the remaining back. In other words, yes it is real money, but it is their money until you sell or move out, then they figure a prorated amount and you have to pay the difference. And just incase you think you could sneak around and get away with it, they are on the mortgage documents. Besides that would be federal time in the really big house. To get the entire grant you have to have at least a 620 credit score. Will post more when I find out more...if anyone is listening, let me know so I won't waste my time.

I know, kinda like bumming money to pay your house note from people at the Salvation Army Shelter.

Like the adage: I thought I had bad luck because I had on shoes, until I met the man who had no feet!

Ok lets get this thing rolling, no more negetivism only positive.

Who is going to get us started?  Any body know anything about grants for homeowners?

I have asked several times if I can post a link to a non-commercial site.  Since I have not heard that I cannot here is a good place to start

http://grants.gov    I have been all over this and it seems to be pretty good.  Go check it out.

When you apply for a grant, let us know and keep us posted everyone!

Hello, I used to be on a blog listening to this kind of talk, nigeria and all.  This blog was dedicated to messing with their heads instead of the otherway around.

They were seeing who could string them along the longest.  One guy actuall got money out of one of them.  He told the nigerian he couldn't open a checking account unless he got a hundred bucks, no check or money order cause he didn't have an ID.  He got it and strung the guy along even more.  Eventually he told him what was up, and thanks for the money!

LOL the shoe was on the other foot!

No, you misunderstood me.  Gifting by the method you suggested, a chain letter, would probably be against this site's rules.  I am new here and don't know.

Chain letters, whether money or not, is against postal codes.  I feel the reason is the exponential growth of the potential of doubling each mailing would over whelm the service.  I can't remember the exact level, but on one level there would be a million, double that on the next two million, double on the next 4 and so on.  It never works like that, but it has the potential of bringing the postal service to a halt.  So they did what they had to and made a postal code against it.

Never heard of anyone getting locked up.  I can see it, the biggest guy in jail walks up and asks, "Watca in fer" reply "Chain letter mailing"  every one in there would kill the guy.  LOL

      Hope that cleard if up.

Read the title of this blog GOVERNMENT GRANTS.

Yes I know that there are other grants, but this is about the government grants.  You must work for a grant department or such, because you say you don't pay them to get you a grant.  Well 6 is one half of one and half-dozen of another.  You want to get into semantics we can.  A person can easily find any and all government grants on at least 3 government sites that I am aware of.

One of these sites has a fantastic search engine and pre-application and application software for the grant.  You fill it out and when ready print it out.

They even give you tips on writing the grant and one even checks it over and polishes it up FOR FREE.

No I know I pay the person at the window of Mickey Dee's to give me a hamburger, but I am not going to go to the store, buy the meat, buns, ketchup, pickles etc., take it to them and cook it for them then get in my car and go through the drive thru so they can take my efforts and put it together so I can pay them.

Same thing, I am not going to gather all my papers, fill out forms, send them to them and hope it doesn't end up in drawer somewhere in the office and pay them ta-boot!

Some people may need that hand holding, I don't and I don't think most people don't either.

Yes they know more and have access to more grants than just government grants.  I have checked them out, which in itself is almost impossible.  Maybe they just want to say they have this foundation or that charity to help people, but don't want to really.

I don't know if you ever sang this song as a child.  "This little Light of Mine"  the main jest of it is if you are doing right and helping, you won't hide your light under a bushel basket, you will let it SHINE!

Besides, how much good could they do if nobody knows about them.

There are organizations that let their light shine, but you can't find a way to get into that glow.

My point is no one on this earth can do more for you to get a grant than yourself.  Don't give the info, no grant, don't fill out the forms, no grant, don't meet the deadline, no grant, and on and on.  At least we can take it into our own hands and mess it up as easily as those folks can and keep my money in my pocket.

Those people do not have magical powers and know super secret words or phrases or have magic dust to sprinkle on the application.  They use software and input the data.

I would like to know how much experience the one working on mine has and how many they have filed and how many the actually got granted.  Bet they miss more than hit.  So can we.  I just know when something is personal to you, you tend to pay more attention to it, ergo, more effort and care.

If someone does not have a very good grasp of the use of the English language, some grants are geared to other cultured and come in other languages.

This blog is about government grants for homeowners specifically.  No other kinds of grants.

There are other grant blogs here if you want to go there.

OK you had your say and I had mine.  Let's forget about it and try to help these people instead of denigrating them.

Some info here will apply to all types of grants.  Hence forth lets not send notes knocking us down or them down.  Let's concentrate on lifting us up.  Helping how and when we can.

      Melinda,

Welcome to this humble abode.  Not much to look at, but a roof over our heads and a fire to keep our tootsies warm.

Hope you will join us around the old LCD for a cup of coco.  Relax, take your shoes off and put them feet up.

      WOAH Just woke up

Sorry, thought I was making a Nestles Chocolate Commercial there for a moment.

Glad you stopped by,  Come on Back,  If you know anything about grants or not.  If only people that know about grants are here, nobody would learn anything, and no one would be able to teach, and then everyone would leave, and I wouldn't have anyone to talk to, and I would start e-mailing myself, then the Microsoft people in their Blue suits would come and take me away.

Seriously, stick around and see what you can find.  Even if you are not interested in a home grant, a lot of the info will be able to cross over into other grants.

I am checking into putting links to free and especially government sites.  One has a free grant finder.  Finds every grant available, searchable, refinable, and it explains the grants and even has paperwork available.

So stick around if you want!

Chain letters are against postal codes.  I don't know why, they make the money off the stamps so they sell more stamps.

I don't know about your other question, but getting everyone to do it would be hard.  It would probably (and I am guessing here) be wrong to try to do it.  Not necessarily wrong, but more like not what they would want.  If everyone that wanted to and it was ok.  I would be willing to do it, but only for the threads I belong to.

Maybe to a charity or something.  You know Jesus said that charity begins at home.  He said among these are faith, hope and charity and the greatest of these is charity.  He also said that the widdow that put in one mite gave more than all the rest.  It is by his charity and love that we are saved.

I have to go, so PM me tomorrow if you want to talk.  I am up early (hurt too much to sleep)

You are right there.  Also, since the grants are tracked by the gifting agency, they have to pass this information on to the feds. and them to the IRS.  So it is best to be upfront and not to get it at the end.

Another thing about them:  If you get ANY kind of government aid, and I mean any, foodstamps, AFDC, WIC, SSI, SS, SSDI, and the list goes on, you have to tell your claims manager.  Getting a grant can sometimes affect your benefits.  It is considered unearned income, and here again much better to be prepared.  You might want to call and discuss that you are thinking about applying for a grant and will it affect my benefits.

Wouldn't do to get a home and loose you income or medicaid or social security and not be able to pay for it.

Thank you Godistheanswer (just looked at your Screen Name)  Great!! He's all that keeps me going!!

      God Bless!

I assume you mean the cake incident.

It really did happen, but was a little different now that I though about it. but basically the same.

Another time there was a large piece of cake, and I told the oldest to share it with his brother.  I told him he could cut it in half.  Well you know one half was "just slightly larger than the other half" (yeah right!).  Once he cut it, I asked if he thought he cut it in half, to which he said yeah.  I said are you satisfied that you cut it equally in half.  Again he affirmed this was so.

I told the youngest to pick a slice.  He politely picked the bigger one and I gave the other to the oldest.  He looked at me, and I said that I had told him to cut it in half and made sure he was satisfied with the division.  I told him that since he had done all this, he should be happy with his "half".

After that it was cut with surgical precision.  And I had no arguing about his piece is bigger than mine.

When this happened my oldest was about 10 and youngest was 5.  The oldest is 39 and youngest is 34.

They both remember the "cake incident" to this day.  My oldest has even used it on his kids.  I have even heard my son passing that pearl of wisdom to his friends.

Believe me it works! Stops a lot of bickering over nothing.

To be honest, I saw it on a movie about 5-10 years before that, but was holding on to this little tidbit of knowledge, awaiting the correct and most opportune moment to use it.  So I can't take credit for inventing it, but I can for using and passing it along, tell your friends and keep it alive!   "It's Alive, It's Alive"  What can I say, I like Frankenstein.

These are the ground rules, if you want to change them, lets all discuss and decide.

I use the printer marking "M" for thousands.  So 8M is 8 Thousand not 8 Million.

We can accomplish a lot here if we all work together and try to honestly and to the best of our knowledge tell our story about our attempts with a grant.

I have not applied for any yet, but I understand the intricacies of the paperwork necessary to process the request.

Here goes my question.  I have heard of a grant given to individuals directly to purchase a home.  I understand there are certain restrictions for this grant, but I don't know exactly what they are.  I have seen in home mags. that this house may qualify or that house qualifies, but I don't know why.  Might be location, or size, I just don't know.  A bank is putting on a seminar like the one you have to go to for HOYO down payment assistance, this month and I am going to go.

This is not the money from HOYO, but is much larger.  I have heard 28M and I have heard $39,999.  This is why I am going to go.

Do any of you have any info on this?

Does anyone know if you can get multiple grants to buy a home, or are you restricted?  There are enough out there that you could.  Oh yea, one thing it said about this grant is you can't use it to fully pay for the home.  I guess you would have to use that money first, then some other grant next.

I had 2 pieces of cake on the counter and my oldest came in and asked about them.  I told him one was his and the other was for his brother. He got one and sat down.  His brother came in and asked about the one piece of cake, I told him it was his.  My oldest said "it is mine", I said you just ate your cake, to which he replied "No I ate John's piece first."  Needless to say, nice try!  Didn't work for him, wouldn't work for me either.

This is just a thing I learned,  When you have two children and on piece of cake, let the oldest cut it in half and the youngest pick the piece they want.  Makes an honest man out the oldest really fast!!!

Well come on and lets get started!

To all the ladies out there "HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!!!"

I wanted to start this blog, because there is much confusion on Government Grants

Let me clear up one point.  There are Government Grants for individuals, but there are certain conditions associated with them.  When the guy wants to get your money for one of the many books, software, e-books etc. he knows what I have found out and am willing to share for free.

Some grants benefit individual homeowners.  I said benefit, because an individual cannot apply directly to he government for the loan, but can benefit from a loan given to a state or charity or organization for the benefit of an individual.  What this means is they get their share and down the line until it gets to you.  That leaves less money in the hands of the ones that need it the most.

These groups are very accountable for this money, are audited, and must face extreme discipline if they do wrong.  Some grants limit their expenses to a set percentage of the grant.  Some don't.

You have to find out first if you can qualify, then apply at the place administering the funds.  Sometimes this is one in the same, but the requirements can be found on a government site.

There are grants that we don't think of as grants.  The breakfast, lunch, snack, summer meals for children is a grant, WIC, Snap, some food pantries, some soup kitchens and the like are grants.  The road you drive on may have been paid for by a grant.  Medicaid is a matching fund grant.  I could go on and on, but you get the picture.

Just because it comes to your pocket in a round-a-bout doesn't mean it isn't a grant.  It may have been a block grant to pave roads, and lots of other things.  So you see that I could sell this information and only send a postcard out saying "your grant is the roads in your town, and it benefits you" and I would not be lying.  I couldn't sleep at night though.

I have done a good bit of searching and found some good sites.  Before you say (Will it cost me anything?", let me say, nobody is cheaper than me.  If I say it is good and free, it is.

I need to know if it is proper to post links here to Government or Free sites.  I have no control or interest in them except to try to help others and gain from their experiences.  If everyone joining has one link, we might have a good thing here.

      Don't anyone do any different.

And don't tell your situation, (OK you can post a short 3-5 liner) just post the help or lack of help you have gotten or not.  Let us know the name, type of business, when you tried, what you tried, and the outcome.

We want the good and bad.  Let us congratulate you if you got help or let you "cry on our shoulders" if you failed.  If you know why you were turned down, we need to know.  Can you reapply and if so, how long do you have to wait.  How difficult was the paperwork, did you get help filling them out, would you recommend the site to anyone?

If it allowed post the link to the site.  We don't want anybody trying to make money off the perils of others, so, do not post any "commercial" sites or recommend "commercial" software or books that can't be found in the local library.

Be forewarned, if you do this I will assume you have a vested interest in the link and this would be against what this blog was setup for.

I figure it like this, if I had $100 or $200 to pay someone to get me a grant with no guarantee, I don't need to be on a website like this.

So if you want to play by the rules, come on over to our sand box and let's share.

Posted in Discussing "help with home repairs" on Feb 12, 2010

I have been doing almost all of my own work on my home and as a living.

I do know a good bit about electrical stuff, and will help if I can.  So ask and if I don't know the answer, I will find out if at all possible.

Just remember, this is not a contractor/customer relationship and only a friend to friend conversation.  Electrical work is dangerous.  While you are working on it you can get shocked, injured, or killed.  Then afterwards a fire can develope causing the same and property damage.

If you ask and I answer and something goes wrong, it will not be my fault.  I can't see the problem, nor can I be perfectly clear on every aspect.  Some things come as second nature when you work in a certain area.  If you do not feel safe or confident enough to proceed with the job, please stop and either call a friend that is comfortable with it, or call an electrician.

Be sure to read and follow each and every thing I say, exactly the way and order I say them.  Always work with the power off!!  I can and have wired switches, plugs and lights with it on.  And yes I have gotten "bit" usually not bad, but it still hurts.  You can always go to the library and get books with illustrations about simple electrical work.  The reason you can't usually find books on items like panel or masts and weather heads it that amount of electricy will not hurt you so much as kill you.  Leave it to a pro.

I will also say one more thing you need to find out the code in your area as it pertains to what you are doing.  If needed you should get a permit and inspections.  They are both there to protect you and anyone that may purchase the home later.

With all that said, bring on the questions.

      About ChasERyr

Posted in ChasERyr on Feb 10, 2010... modified on Feb 10, 2010

Our 1995 Trailer was flooded by a broken pipe.  Everything was ruined.  Insurance totaled it which made it salvage.  We bought it back for $200.00.  The only problem is the county says we cannot live in a salvage home.  They condemned it for living.  Our families have not got the ability to put us up.  In-laws are in their 70's and 80's and have my mother-in-law's brother and his daughter living with them.  All of them are disabled except the daughter.  She has a minimum wage job.

My sister has her two daughters, their husbands and all their kids living in a 3 br. 1 1/2 bath house.

My oldest brother lives a long distance from us and is disabled and lives in a small trailer.

My youngest brother lives a long distance away also, lives with my mother in a very small 12X45 two br. 1 bath trailer.

We have tried to get help with local and national charities and most are out of money.

We are both SSI disabled, on oxygen, and a lot of other medicine.  Medicaid only pays for 2 name brand and 3 generic meds.  This hardly covers our med.  We pay $3.oo co-pay and full pay for not covered meds.  Prescription assistance will not cover the others because we have medicaid.  We could get it if we lied, but that isn't how we do things.

Our checks together only amount to $1020.50 per month.  We do get $200 in Snap Benefits.  And the last two months light bills equal over $700.00.  We can't get help on them because of the above problem.

We are living in a condemned trailer, which, if the county knew, they would put us out of it.

We took the personal property money and bought material to fix the trailer.  A young man who does remodeling found out about us.  He has volunteered his time, when he isn't working, to do the work.  He found mold in the walls and floor insulation.  All the walls, floor coverings, insulation, cabinets, etc. have to be replaced.  Add that to the fact that about Nov. 09 our heater went out, and during the summer our A/C developed a leak in a curve of the coil outside and can't be fixed.  Sometime last summer we developed a short in the wiring in our bedroom end of the house and it quit working.  We had to string extension cords to have lights.  Which sometimes overloaded the breakers.

We bought wallboard and insulation for the walls, some electrical stuff (power fixed in the bedroom), a heater unit, floor covering, and stuff like that with the personal property money we got from the insurance.  When the young man found the mold, we took back a lot of stuff to get some of the additional material to finish what we could.  We are short insul. and belly paper for bottom, Sheetrock and mud and tape, primer, paint, baseboard, cabinets, and a lot more stuff.

While he was working on what we have, we started to having the main breaker trip off every so often.  Seems if you do like "Green Acres" and take a 4 and a 6 and a 2 you better not add a 9 or it will blow.  The young man is going to try to get an electrician to maybe fix what the problem is.  He said he can get us a discount, but not free.

We need help buying supplies (contacted several charities and organizations, no luck) and any info anyone can give on assistance.  We can't get thrown out of our home, specially since it is paid for and all we have to pay is lot rent, and utilities.  We thought we could take the money left from our checks and get material.  Problem is we didn't count on "Global Warming" causing record lows in our area (south MS) and running up our elect. bill.  Our water was doubled because of the pipe, then because we had to let it run so the cold would not freeze it.

We are literally between a rock and another rock. (worse than a rock an a hard place).  We don't know what to do.

If the "Carpenter's Helper" organization does help us, they say there is a 6-12 month wait after approval.  We can't wait that long.

Anybody that knows of some answer or suggestion please help!!
